Mali Mthethwa, a 34-year-old artist from Johannesburg, South Africa, holds a bachelor's degree in Community Development and is pursuing an Honours degree in Anthropology at the University of Johannesburg. As a Zulu woman raised in an urban environment heavily influenced by Western culture, she explores Nguni cultural communication through beading. Mthethwa founded The Herd, a renowned collaborative collective, where she combines her academic background in the community development with traditional artisanal techniques to create contemporary Jewellery and art objects celebrating African culture and the expertise of Nguni cultural groups.
